SCERA renames Grand Theatre, celebrates 85th anniversary

By Sarah Harris daily Herald - | Sep 25, 2018

Orem’s SCERA Center for the Arts held a ribbon cutting and reception Monday to celebrate its 85th anniversary and the renaming of its Grand Theatre.

The theater is now known as the Clarke Grand Theatre, named after the James and Andrea Clarke family. The center announced Monday its multi-year partnership with the Clarkes to “further our artistic mission and ongoing capital projects,” according to a SCERA Facebook post.

“We are grateful for their generosity, leadership, humility and vision, as well as our mayor, city leaders, sponsors, patrons and staff who love and support the arts,” the post said.

The Clarkes operate Clarke Capital Partners, a global growth equity and alternatives firm, founded Utah-based marketing company Clearlink, and have been involved with several artistic and humanitarian endeavors throughout the world.

They helped to raise more than $20 million for Utah Valley University’s Noorda Center for the Performing Arts; served as special advisers to the CEO of the Global Citizen Festival, which raises more than $1 billion annually to eradicate extreme poverty; and recently joined forces with Lord David Rowe-Beddoe and the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace to underwrite scholarships for the Royal Welsh College of Music in Wales, according to the SCERA.

“Today, the Clarkes serve at SCERA where James’ mother performed in her youth,” the Clarkes’ SCERA bio said. “They are honored to contribute to causes which support the arts, education and poverty elimination.”
